What does it take to keep your butt in the saddle?

Let me just start, I ride western saddle horses for pleasure. There is nothing plesurable about falling out of the saddle. I was riding a few weeks back and I like to get in to the woods and work on the agility of my horse. We are riding in the woods at a moderate speed. I hit a muddy wet weahhter creek. Slipped and the horse and I rolled. I twisted my knee and hyper extended my ankle. I hate not being able to ride. Moral of the story is to look before you leap.
